Somerset Patriots Baseball Fundraiser
07/01/10
July 1st was Morris Rugby Day at the Somerset Patriots Ballpark. 281 kids and parents from our Morris Youth Rugby family came out to watch some minor league baseball and introduce our flag rugby game to the baseball fans.
The evening was action packed as coaches Mark Panko, Mike Stumpf Trish Titone and Mark Goebel helped organize 8 different teams of ruggers from across our programs to demonstrate our flag rugby game to the crowd before the baseball game. The kids played as the Patriots organization relayed the action up to the big screen in the stadium. Craig Chapman emcee'd the play on the field and explained the game to the crowd. Dylan and Tyler Taunton were there to ref the action and keep the sanity. Once play was over, the kids marched back into the stadium led by birthday girl Maave Grennan. They lined the infield as the national anthem was sung and Alex Goebel from Parsippany and Xander Reyes from Long Valley threw out the first pitches. The kids then then headed into the bleachers to watch the game and hang out with their teammates and fellow ruggers. During the 7th inning stretch a group of our players got to go back down to the field to lead the crowd in singing 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame'. A lot of fun was had by all! Thanks to everyone who made it a success!
